Some people have PM me and asked me “What if I got no tripod?”
The following recommendations listed below is considering that the person has little/no photography skills and is not interested to go fiddle around with the settings. To put it simply, I simplify the process for people.
Settings that I would recommend:
ISO – 1600
Shutter Speed – 1/10 to 1/50
Aperture – f4/f5.6
Focus – infinity
Lens – Ultra wide angle (11-16mm) or Moderate Zoom (17-50mm)
I have no experience with using telephoto lens so I cant provide settings as to how to use it.
The aperture is fix at either f4/f5.6 so that you have lesser settings to adjust during the shoot itself. If you are feeling adventurous and know what you are doing, by all means adjust it.
Before the shoot, please do some test shots with the different shutter speed. Use your friend or some object in the distance and fire at it.
Shot is blur, rectify it by changing shutter speed to a faster one. Eg, we are using 1/10 now, then use 1/30 next and see how.
Shot is too bright, rectify it by changing the shutter speed to a faster one. Eg, we are using 1/10 now, then use 1/30 next and see how.
The reverse applies if shot is too dark, taking that 1/10 is the limit.
Why not go slower than 1/10? It is entirely up to your own discretion and stability of hands.
Basically, during the shoot, preview your first shot quickly and make judgement call to see if there is a need to change your shutter speed. I suggest over these few days to learn the handling of your camera esp the shutter speed.
Do show me your shots or send it to me after NDP!
